Holiday Lights | Creating New Holiday Traditions with Your Kids

It’s a special kind of feeling when you realize that your little ones, or at least one of them, are old enough to understand and even look forward to the holidays. Halloween has always been a holiday that the boys have enjoyed. They look forward to it because of the costumes and the candy, and also because we like to throw them a little Halloween party each year.
Any opportunity to play with their friends is appreciated around here.
And as much as I absolutely love Halloween, there is s certain kind of magic that comes with Christmas. Growing up, we didn’t celebrate it, but I always got to enjoy it with my friends. I have to say, Christmas as a parent is an entirely different type of magic. The glee on the children’s faces as they excitedly run down the stairs to find their presents is something that just stays with you. It warms you! And while that is one of my favorite things about Christmas morning, there are so many beautiful parts of this holiday to be enjoyed leading up to Christmas.
Our kids get several phone calls from Santa, and we even FaceTime with him from time to time, just so that we get their list right, and so that Santa can check in to see whether the boys have been naughty or nice. Elfie, our beloved Elf on the Shelf, comes to visit us December 2nd (the day after Princeton’s Birthday), to keep an eye on the boys, and making all sorts of awkward landings every morning. It’s these little things that we do for the kids that really bring the season to life.
We take drives down a few Candy Cane Lanes, with hot cocoa in hand, and remark on all of the wonderful Christmas decorations. Every year I think to myself how much I would love to go all out with the kid’s help. Every year I think that I can’t wait for them to get old enough to understand and get excited about decorating. Every single year I imagine the wonder on their faces as we light up the night and bring the magic of Christmas home.
Well, this is the year that my dreams get to come true! My love and I took our boys to Walmart to pick out or lights. We decided we would decorate our little garden first, to see how the boys do. The plan was to make hot cocoa, turn on our favorite holiday tunes, and eat freshly baked snickerdoodle cookies as we decorate the garden. We really wanted to make it a special evening to help start a new holiday tradition. What we found at Walmart were the perfect holiday lights! EZ-Illuminations Super Sparkle lights and EZ-Illuminations LED Flame Bulbs. These lights are so easy to use! Our 5 and 3 year-old boys loved decorating with them. Personally, I thought the LED Flame Bulbs were such a special touch. They really added to the atmosphere.
What I love most about these lights is the way they individually sparkle and create such a dramatic lighting effect. I could not be happier with our new Christmas tradition, and our gorgeous new lights. Showstoppers!
