The Fair Goes Pop

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of LA County Fair. All opinions are 100% mine.

Would you believe that I have never been to a fair? Never in my life. Not as a child, not as a teen. I never had one of those perfect movie moments with my friends, running around carefree at the town fair, eating some variation of a fried food on a stick, while hopping on the ferris wheel, or checking out the pie that won first place.

I'm not sure why, but I just never made my way to the LA County Fair, no matter how much I wanted. Not even in adulthood! So, one day a few weeks ago, I brought this up to my husband and announced that this will be the year that I make it to the LA County Fair in Pomona.

Wouldn't you know it? We got tickets to the fair the very next day!

With tickets in hand, I was excited to watch all of the fun food segments on the news every morning. I was making a list of things to try, as they featured all of the fun foods.

So, one night last week, we asked my mom to watch the boys, and took off for the fair, like two kids without adult supervision for the very first time.

The LA County Fair is a site to be seen. Honestly, I was so excited to be there, I didn't know where to go first, what to do first, and most of all, what to eat first. I must have looked like a ball darting around in a pinball machine for the first 20 minutes of our visit. But when I finally settled down a bit, I was able to take in all of the amazing sites.

I was so pleasantly surprised by all of the picturesque stands and Instagramable photo ops.

I absolutely fell in love with the gardens, and even enjoyed a gardening lecture. I came away with a ton of new knowledge, and am planning on setting up a sweet little garden in weeks to come.

I enjoyed walking around The Big Red Barn and getting to see and pet some of the animals, while hubby stood by and snapped a few pictures. It was really nice to be able to walk into a petting zoo without having to watch the kids. It’s a funny thing to say, but it’s very true. I actually got to enjoy petting some of the goats and sheep myself. I had no idea how sweet and affectionate these animals truly are. Another wonderful thing learned from the LA County Fair.

I was also very impressed with all of the hand washing stations and staff reminding everyone to wash their hands. Such great attention to important details.

I must admit, while I loved looking around the Big Red Barn, what I really wanted to do was get to the food. I had my list and I checked it twice! But even with a list of food I wanted to try, the options were overwhelming and I wanted them ALL as we walked passed Fried Oreo’s, Krispy Kream Donut Burgers, Fried Frog Legs, Crazy Corn, a plethora of BBQ stands, that filled the air with scrumptious, scents that teased our senses and tummies.

But as we walked, we began to get thirsty. With just as many drink options as there are food options, we decided on Watermelon and Strawberry Lemonades to quench our thirst.

At the top of my food list? The Fruity Pebbles Shrimp Po Boys Sandwich. It was one of the foods featured on the news, and I just needed to taste it!

It tasted nothing like it looked. Sweet and tangy, with a little bit of a kick, it was absolutely delicious. Note: If you are watching your carb intake, there is a skewered shrimp option. No bun.

Hubby got an order of fried pickles and let me tell you, I’ve been crazing them ever since. So good!

Next, we gave in to the temptations of BBQ. We ordered ribs and a turkey leg, and could not be more satisfied.

We did a lot of walking around and enjoyed a lot of the things that the LA County Fair has to offer.

Personally, I really loved Pops of Color. The displays we beautiful and it was nice to be our of the heat, inside of an air-conditioned building, enjoying the beauty.

Ok, so you know how all fairs have “best in show” contests? I mean, according to the movies, anyway. Well, THAT’S ALL TRUE!!!! Now, how does one get to become a judge for the dessert making contests?

All of our adult fun was wonderful. But I must admit, when we got to the Kiddie Carnival, we really missed our kids.

So the decision was made, we are going back before the LA County Fair ends September 22nd, 2019. This time, WITH kids!
