We made plans for hubby's Birthday months ago. We were going to Vegas for a few nights with good friends. Those plans, as you can tell by the title of this post, did not come to fruition. We had to cancel our trip altogether. As sad as that was, it was necessary.
Instead, we booked our favorite room, in one of our favorite hotels, overlooking the ocean, in Ventura, CA. This too, did not pan out, and we had to cancel our cliffside getaway, last minute due to the horrific California wildfires. We were at a loss, until we remembered how much fun we had in Palm Springs, oh so many years ago, when we were just dating. In fact, our very first trip together, was a weekend in Palm Springs for my Birthday. Fond memories, indeed.
So, in true Holliman fashion, we figured out a way to get away!
We looked online, and booked what looked like a lovely room at La Serena Villas. We woke up the next day, spent the morning with our kids, then packed and were on the road to Palm Springs, as soon as the boys went down for their naps.
I have to say, I was extremely nervous because I wanted to make sure that hubby had an incredible Birthday this year. Especially since all of our plans had fallen apart. He's also been working so hard, I just wanted him to get his mind off of the business, the kids, and all of the heavy heavy weight on his shoulders. I wanted him to be in a beautiful, peaceful place, where he would be comfortable and able to relax. So, taking a chance at a hotel I randomly found online, was a bit nerve-wracking.
But, we had a fun, lovely drive, as we always do when we get away just the two of us. And when we pulled up to La Serena Villas, the weight had began to lift off of my shoulders.
It was gorgeous!
We checked in, and were walked to our bungalow, where we were welcomed with a tiny bottle of tequila, and all the fixin's to get our relaxing stay started.
Our bungalow, was big, but cozy, and we loved every detail, the tile, the fixtures.
Every bungalow comes with a fire and a water feature. Our particular patio, had a lovely electric fire pit, as well as a bath tub (not shown).
This hotel is located right in the center of town. So, we settled in, then went for a nice walk, did some shopping, and had some sushi, before heading back to the hotel, to relax by the fire. It was the best!
On our walk, we spotted a few restaurants that tickle dour fancy, but one stood out because it was so packed; LULU California Bistro, an award winning restaurant. We made reservations, and walked on over to celebrate my babe's Birthday.
We both decided to order one of the preset menus. The options seemed phenomenal, so we started with the Escargot. Unfortunately, the Escargot was, well, subpar.
Next came out soups.
I had the Seafood Chowder, which was delicious...
Hubby had the mushroom soup, which was very bland and strangely, lacked texture.
Hubby's steak was incredible.
My Filet Mignon, on the other hand, was coated in this overpowering sauce, that it really did not need.
Of course, we had to have dessert. I ordered the Napoleon. I have to say, it was so light and so well done, it reminded me of the Napoleon my Grandmother used to make. Now, that's sayin' somethin'.
Overall, we really found the food to be quite disappointing. As good as the menu here sounded, the food really fell short.
But, as always, we had a great time, and enjoyed each other's company.
BACK AT THE HOTEL
The next day, we woke up and called room service to bring us our complementary breakfast basket. It was such a pleasant surprise. It was the perfect amount of just the right foods, to get our morning started. Our morning of lounging in bed, that is. We take our sleeping in and lounging very seriously, when there are no kids around.
We had a wonderful time, and our only regret was that we didn't have more time to spare for this fun Birthday Getaway.
