The Sickness



It has been about a month and a half since "the sickness" hit our home. It was swift, and unforgiving. It's first victim, our 3-year-old Princeton. His fever of 103.3 lasted two days. Two whole days our little boy spent lying in my arms, hardly talking, only getting up here and there to use the potty and try to muster up some energy to play. Two days of Papa trying to keep the baby away from the sickie.

But alas, it got Baby Skyler too. Although the fever didn't last quite as long, it was still 103 for about 24 hours. Then, "the snotties" began. Both boys, and a never ending stream of bubbles and snot... boxes upon boxes of tissues, until one day, the sickness took its final victim, yours truly.

What caused all this you might ask? One trip to the gym! Yes, just one!

My kids don’t go to preschool, and we have never sent them to daycare. Mainly, because the cost of childcare is astronomical, but also because I cannot bare to part with them just yet. I need them just as much as they need me at this point, and I would rather have them warm and comfy at home, where I can see them and keep them safe from the rest of the world, just a little while longer.

So, the only time that they are truly away from me is when I go to the gym and drop them off at the gym's daycare, which is just a few feet away from where I work out. It's convenient, it's me time, and they are still just an earshot away.

The problem has become this; we go one time, then we are sick for two to four weeks before we can go again. This should tell you something about the shape I'm in with all of the working out I do... or don’t do.

This particular sickness hit the boys and me hard. Princeton and Skyler seem to have finally gotten over it, but I'm still sniffling and coughing. It's gross really. The worst part of it is that I am now afraid to go back to the gym, which is unfortunate, because I truly enjoy it. What is a mama to do? Risk yet another month of sickness by going to the gym, or cancel the membership and work-out at home like a hermit?

I already work from home, now I’m going to work-out at home? No! I don’t believe that can be an option. I love home, but a girl needs to see the light of day from time to time… and so do the kids!

I guess all we can really do is get back up on that horse again and prepare for the next round of the icky’s. Just as soon as mama is at 100% again.
